Mental health care is in a crisis. Demand for services has shot up during the pandemic, and it’s harder than ever for patients to find a clinician. Laws requiring insurers to treat mental and physical health conditions equitably are often ignored. The resulting toll on individuals, families, and communities is staggering. There’s no doubt the current system is broken, part of a public health infrastructure teetering on the brink. But there is a way forward. Our panelists bring deep expertise in clinical care, academic research, and population health, as well as lived experience with serious mental illness. Together, they will explore new approaches to mental health care, including a proposal put forward in Thomas Insel’s new book, Healing, to focus on “people, place, and purpose.” Join us for a conversation focused on solutions.
