Inspired by a Narcan training provided to the nursing team by their local Public Health Nurse, Beth Savidge and Lily Stafford, Middle and High School Nurses in the Gill-Montague School District, explored bringing the training to all staff at their Middle and High School. School administrators were supportive and set aside 40 minutes at a faculty meeting. Beth and Lily collaborated with the local PHN who provided supplies, a PowerPoint presentation, 50 (two dose) boxes of Narcan, face shields, and informational magnets with emergency use of Narcan instructions on them. They revised the Presentation to align with the school setting and better reflect their school community. The goal of the training was to provide the information needed to safely respond to a suspected overdose and to review the nursing protocols in place for a suspected overdose during the school day. Staff who were interested in carrying Narcan came to the School Health Office where the nurses answered additional questions or concerns. About 30 Narcan kits were distributed to school staff for use in the community.
